OHMi: Herbaceous stratum dynamics
Last update: 28 March 2018
Context
The Sahel is subject to periods of drought and desertification, combined with natural resource degradation, which is increasing the poverty and vulnerability of local communities. To address these constraints, the countries in the Sahel have launched a strategy to fight desertification and rehabilitate degraded soils. The Great Green Wall, or African Initiative of the Great Green Wall, is a project developed by the African Union to tackle the adverse socioeconomic and environmental effects of soil degradation and desertification in the Sahara and Sahel.
