Northwestern Benin - Djougou zone (Pelebina)

Last update: 27 October 2017

A bottomland in the village of Pelebina, 30 km south of Djougou (Benin), was the object of an exploratory study from August 2013 to July 2014.

Geographical characterization of the crops in this environment during the rainy season (bottomland map, R. Drieu), then in the dry season, was carried out by two students (Masters), Robin Drieu (SupAgro) then Alexandre Boucher (University of Paris XI). This enabled the original analysis of the satellite image acquired in December 2013, which revealed a typology of catchment areas within a 20-km square.

Entomological observations primarily concerned pests of cereal crops (maize, sorghum and rice) and dry-season Poaceae, and the natural enemies in the area. Off-season crops such as okra are likely to host pests (photo). Brief surveys have been conducted of producer practices, particularly pesticide use. A database has been compiled.
